Introducing..... Scott Base

Affectionately known as Scott Base for Contract Manager Scott Millar and its sub-Antarctic temperatures for six months of the year! This portacom office is the hub of the Road Network Maintenance Contract 2002-2007. This contract is made up of sealed and unsealed road maintenance, traffic services, vegetation control, street cleaning and road drainage. Scott is assisted by Bill Gaston and Gary Anderson as Supervisors and Cherie Wilkie as Contract Administrator.

Promotion

Brian (Baz) Stephens was promoted to Workshop Foreman in August 2004. He heads a team of 3 diesel mechanics, 1 apprentice and a fitter/welder.

Births

Chris Owen (Gardener/Arborist) and his wife Lynley became parents to Tobias (Toby) John on 10 July 2004 8lb5oz. Congratulations Chris & Lynley. Brian Stephens (Workshop Foreman) and his wife Trudi became parents to Josh Charles on 4 September 2004. Congratulations Baz and Trudi.

Deaths

Bill McCulloch, Workshop Foreman. Bill passed away on 17th August 2004 at his home in Greymouth. Bill was well respected and well liked by all who worked with him and knew him and will be greatly missed.

New Plant

This suction sweeper was purchased from Invercargill in August. It has dual controls and is a major step up from the sweeper that was in existence. The machine is utilised on the Road Network Maintenance Contract as well as Tararua Roading's Maintenance Contract.

Minties Moment

Tim Edwards had a bit of a "spill" recently. David Allen, Facilities Maintenance Contract Manager reports, "Captain Edwards on the SS Condom Clipper II capsized while on aerator manoeuvres at the Waipukurau Oxidation Pond. Edwards and the vessel were retrieved without damage or injuries. Captain Edwards has been stripped of his Oxi Pond pilots licence and is to be assigned to shore duties until further notice."

Social Activities

Coming up we have the Waipukurau Races on 5 December 2004. This is a great day enjoyed by all. The Children's Christmas Party will be held at Camp David on 12 December 2004.
