Infracon Ltd and Central Hawke's Bay District Council jointly carried out this oxidation pond upgrade project.

After the completion, the pond has been complying with the Regional Council resource consent for the past 18 months.

Project brief description:

1. Gravity feed system has been maintained
2. The only electrical/mechanical equipment is a submersible jet aerator
3. All upgrading works have been done within the pond with minimum capital investment

The modification project has proved that "in-pond" hydraulic and biological improvements can be a practical solution that is often overlooked.

Infracon Ltd has presented a paper with the title of "Oxidation Pond Modification" that won 2008 year Hynds Paper of the Year Runner Up prize. The full paper can be found in New Zealand NZWWA Journal, November 2008.
